Q: What’s the deal with these online “instant” CPR cards?
A: They are for the most part a scam.  They take the curriculum from the AHA, but provide no form of legitimate certification or skills training.  In order to learn how to perform effective CPR, hands-on training is essential.  The instant online cards may be cheap, but they will not teach you the skills you need. Additionally, if you require certification for your job, an instant online card will not be accepted. Our instructors are certified by the AHA, and after successfully completing one of our courses, you will receive a card from the AHA which certifies you for two years.

Q: What forms of payment do you accept?

A: We accept payments by major credit/debit cards (through PayPal), personal checks, money orders, and cash. Paying for your class ahead of time with a credit/debit card will ensure both your seat in the class and receipt of your certification card as soon as possible.

Q: Where are your classes held?

A: We hold the majority of our classes at our Garfield location at 113 Dewitt St., Suite 200. Occasionally, skills tests will be held at our Wayne office.  Click here for directions. We are also available to come to your location (business, doctor’s office, school, home) if needed (minimum of 5 students). Q: What is the difference between the BLS and HeartSaver classes?  Which one should I take?

A: BLS (basic life support) for Healthcare Providers is a class typically required for nurses, doctors, EMTs, paramedics, police officers, firefighters, and anyone working in the healthcare setting.  The class includes adult, pediatric, and infant CPR, AED, and choking.  The skills taught in this class are more advanced and is taught with the assumption that the student will be required to perform the skills in real life situations.
The HeartSaver courses, on the other hand, are more basic.  HeartSaver is more suitable for teachers, babysitters, industrial employees, or anyone who wants to learn the skills.  The HeartSaver classes are broken down based on the student’s needs.  They include: AED (which includes CPR for adults and children), CPR (adult and/or child), First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens.  Still not sure? Contact us!

Q: When will I receive my certification card?

A: As we are an American Heart Association Authorized Training Site, cards are printed at the conclusion of your class, in most cases. If you are in an on-site class, your card will be mailed to you on the business day following the class. Cards will only be issued if payment has been received in full and personal checks have cleared.

Q: My old CPR card is expired. What do I do?

A: That depends on how long expired your card is. If it expired a month or two ago, it is not a problem. If it is a year expired, you will have to take the full class again. This is not a big deal—the full class is only about a half an hour longer than the renewal, and we typically run these classes together.  Anything in between, contact us.

Q: What if I don’t pass the written test?

A: Throughout the class, we will emphasize the information that you need to know for the written test.  If you are struggling, we will give you the extra help you need.  Remediation is permitted by the AHA. We are dedicated to making sure every one of our students feels comfortable with the material and skills, because after all, you are learning to save a life!

Q: I lost my card. What do I do?

A: For information on how to get a replacement card, click here. Please note that replacement cards can only be given to our students.
